Rockwool Spray Foam Insulation Nationwide

Rockwool Spray Foam Insulation in Fresno: What to Know First

If you own a Fresno home with Rockwool insulation and you’re considering spray foam, you’re likely weighing two things: whether the existing Rockwool should stay or go, and who actually knows how to handle both materials correctly. We install and service spray foam insulation in Fresno homes that already contain Rockwool batts or boards, and in most cases the answer is a hybrid approach: keep the Rockwool where it’s doing its job, and use spray foam where air sealing is the real problem. Most Rockwool plus spray foam jobs in Fresno run between $1,800 and $6,500 depending on square footage and access, and we give you the exact written number before any work starts. This page is for homeowners who have Rockwool insulation (also called stone wool or mineral wool) and want to understand what spray foam can and can’t do alongside it. Glenn Hartley and the Woolsey Insulation Fresno crew have worked on Rockwool batts in Tower District bungalows, ComfortRock boards in Woodward Park builds, and Safe’n’Sound in bonus-room conversions across Fresno and Clovis. We’re an independent Rockwool service provider, which means we work on Rockwool products but we’re not affiliated with or authorized by the manufacturer. That independence matters: we recommend what the house needs, not what a brand rep wants sold.

How Rockwool Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

Rockwool is a solid product, but it’s not immune to problems, and the failure modes are different from fiberglass or cellulose. Here’s what we actually see in Fresno attics and walls:

  • Rockwool ComfortBatt losing its friction fit. ComfortBatt is sized to friction-fit between studs, but in Fresno’s dry summer heat, framing can shrink slightly. We regularly find batts that have slumped or pulled away from the top plate, leaving a 1/2-inch air channel at the ceiling line. That channel lets conditioned air escape all summer. The fix isn’t to yank the Rockwool: we re-seat the batts, then apply open-cell spray foam at the top plate and rim joist to close the air gap permanently.
  • Rockwool Safe’n’Sound with no air barrier behind it. Safe’n’Sound is designed for acoustic isolation, not thermal performance. Homeowners sometimes install it in interior walls expecting it to also stop drafts, then wonder why the room is still cold. The issue is that Safe’n’Sound is vapor-permeable and air passes right through it. We add a thin layer of closed-cell spray foam to the wall cavity’s exterior sheathing before re-installing the Safe’n’Sound, giving the assembly an actual air barrier without losing the sound control.
  • Rockwool ComfortBoard with unsealed seams. ComfortBoard is a rigid exterior insulation board, and on stucco-over-foam Fresno homes, the seams between boards are rarely taped or sealed by the original installer. Water and air find those seams. We see this a lot in older Fig Garden and Fresno High neighborhoods. Our approach is to identify seam gaps with a thermal camera, then inject low-expansion closed-cell foam into each seam from the interior side where possible, so the board’s thermal break actually works.
  • Rockwool Multi-Purpose Roll in attic floors that never got air-sealed. This is the single most common Rockwool problem in Fresno: someone laid Multi-Purpose Roll batts directly over a ceiling with unsealed can lights, wiring penetrations, and top plates. The Rockwool filters the air but doesn’t stop it, so the insulation gets loaded with dust and the house still leaks like a screen door. Our fix is to lift the Rockwool, air-seal every penetration with spray foam, then relay the same Rockwool on top. You keep the material, we fix the performance.
  • Rockwool in cathedral ceilings with no ventilation channel. In Fresno, cathedral ceilings with Rockwool packed tight against the roof deck create a hot-roof problem in summer: the stone wool absorbs heat and radiates it into the living space all night. The proper fix is to remove the Rockwool, install spray foam directly against the roof deck (closed-cell for the air and vapor barrier), and either leave out the Rockwool or leave a ventilated air channel. We won’t shortcut this one, because getting it wrong means a sheathing rot problem inside five years.

Our Rockwool Spray Foam Insulation Process

Every Rockwool job we run follows the same sequence, whether it’s a small rim joist project in Sunnyside or a full attic retrofit in Woodward Park. Here’s how it goes:

  1. 1
The look. Glenn Hartley or a senior tech climbs into the attic or inspects the wall assembly before anyone quotes anything. Look before you quote, every attic tells you something the paperwork won’t. We document what’s there, what’s failed, and what the actual thermal and air-sealing problem is.
  2. 2
The written price. You get a line-item price in writing before any work begins. That number doesn’t change at the door. No surprises, no add-ons, no “we found something extra” conversation unless you approve it in advance.
  3. 3
The work. We remove or re-seat Rockwool only where needed, air-seal the real leak points with spray foam, and re-install the existing material properly. We don’t tear out good insulation to sell you more foam.
  4. 4
The test. After the foam cures, we inspect every seam and penetration, often with a thermal camera to verify the air barrier is continuous.
  5. 5
The cleanup. The job site is left cleaner than we found it. That’s part of The Kingswell Way, and it’s in writing along with your guarantee.
  6. 6
The paperwork. You get a written guarantee covering the work for 365 days. If it fails, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the Done Right Promise.

What Rockwool Spray Foam Insulation Costs in Fresno

Here’s what we see in the Fresno market, based on the jobs we quote every week:

  • Rim joist spray foam with existing Rockwool in the floor system: $800 to $1,800 for a typical 1,200 to 2,000 square foot Fresno home. This is the highest-value air-sealing job most older homes need.
  • Attic air-sealing plus re-install existing Rockwool batts: $1,500 to $3,200 depending on attic access and the number of penetrations. Crawl-space attics in Tower District are different from walkable attics in newer northeast Fresno subdivisions.
  • Cathedral ceiling conversion from Rockwool to closed-cell spray foam: $3,500 to $6,500 for a typical 400 to 700 square foot ceiling. This is the most labor-intensive Rockwool scenario because the old material has to come out first.
  • Garage ceiling spray foam with Rockwool above: $1,200 to $2,800 depending on whether the garage is finished and how much of the existing Rockwool stays in place.

What moves the price is access, square footage, and whether the existing Rockwool can be salvaged or has to be removed. We don’t quote blind. Call (559) 785-2658 and we’ll schedule the look, then give you the exact written number.

Why Fresno Homeowners Call Woolsey Insulation Fresno for Rockwool Work

Fresno homeowners call us because they’ve been burned before. A contractor who changed the price at the door. A crew that never showed in the promised window. A repair that failed six weeks later. We built the way we work to be the opposite of that. Every job gets a written price before work starts, a committed arrival window, a clean job site, and a written guarantee for 365 days. If it’s not right, we come back and fix it, at no charge, in writing.

Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed, so you know exactly who’s walking into your home. The phone is answered by a live person, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No voicemail maze, no call-back window. And because we work with eight leading insulation brands including Owens Corning, Johns Manville, Knauf, Rockwool, CertainTeed, Icynene, Demilec, and GreenFiber, plus Reflectix for radiant barrier work, the material recommendation fits your house, not whatever happens to be on the truck.

Glenn got his start at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where he learned the building science fundamentals and realized insulation was the part of construction most people got wrong. After more than a decade working the Central Valley, he still climbs into the attic himself before anyone starts quoting R-values. That’s how we know a Rockwool job in Fresno is done right: someone who actually looked at it put the price in writing.
